This theatre production fuses a multitude of Shakespearean selections into a unique, entertaining, storyline set in Heaven. The Chicago Cubs, Shakespeare, and God, as well as a dozen characters from the Bard's plays all take roles in this contemporary fantasy.
The story of the play follows a professional actor who is accidently trampled to death by raucous baseball fans while riding his bicycle near Wrigley Field just after the Chicago Cubs clinch the Division Championship. Fantasy? Rising up to Heaven, the actor meets William Shakespeare and is granted an audition for a new company being directed by the Bard and produced by, yes, God. Twelve Shakespearean characters and monologues are integrated into this entertaining, refreshing, modern fantasy. God and Shakespeare are integrated as characters on audiotape.
Educational as well as entertaining, the show illuminates the Bard's work by making his characters recognizable and accessible for a modern audience. Very suitable for students high school age to adult.
